The book
describes more than 1346 medicinal plants found in the world and includes
vernacular names, description, distribution, part use, utilization, active
principles, agronomic practices and 870 colour photographs. Separate chapters on
organic farming, bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides used for sustainable
cultivation of medicinal plants, tips for medicinal plants cultivation and
multi-tier agriculture systems of medicinal plants have been presented. The book
also includes complete addresses (including E-mail addresses) of research
institutes and agencies, NGOs, importers and exporters, traders and commission
agents, growers, seeds and planting materials suppliers, medicinal gardens,
books, analytical testing facilities, market news services, important web sites
of the world. Glossary of various terms used and common names of medicinal
plants in different languages have been appended.
About the Authors – Narayan
Das Prajapati is a well-known medicinal plant grower on large scale in
India, also providing training to farmers, traders and research institutions. He
is a visiting faculty in various universities and member of National Medicinal
Plants Board of India, Govt. of India. Dr. S. S. Purohit has been a guest
scientist in universities of various countries, having a 30 years teaching
experience and is a well-known author of about 30 books and 125 research
articles. Arun K. Sharma is working as a scientist at Central Arid Zone
Research Institute, Jodhpur, India and is known for his experience with
Biofertilizers and Organic farming. Tarun Kumar has done Masters in
Science in medicinal plants from Gujarat Ayurvedic University, Jamnagar,
Gujarat, India and is a guest faculty in various institutions, having written
over 50 articles on medicinal plants.
