This is a
compilation of scientific information that is found scattered at various sources
and which has been evaluated by a recognized authority in the field of medicinal
plants viz. Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha, New Delhi,
founded under the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine under the Ministry of
Health, India. It is one of the premier organizations doing original research in
all aspects of medicinal plants. Volume I and Volume II contain 40 monographs
each, Volume III, IV and V contain 30 monographs each.
Each
monograph contains information under the following headings: Botanical Name,
Natural Order (Family), Classical Names, Vernacular Names, Botanical
Description, Distribution, Parts Used, Actions and Uses, Ayurvedic Properties,
Doses, Pharmacognosy, Physical Constants, Chemical Constituents, Pharmacological
Activities, Therapeutic Evaluation, Formulations and Preparations, Trade and
Commerce, Substitutes and Adulterants, Propagation and Cultivation and lastly,
extensive Bibliography for each plant.
